A Fistful of Flowers

Friends of my friends from Baltimore, the Baltimore Annex Theatre, are on tour right now with their play, A Fistful of Flowers. And it’s frickin awesome. I got to see it in Minneapolis and was really impressed at the way they paid homage to the western genre while totally mocking the racist and sexist stereotypes of the genre. Funny, engaging, and downright immersively spooky at times.

When I went to go see them, I feel like it came at an excellent time for me to realize: hey, I’m proud of my culture. I’m proud of the DIY/anarchoish/punk scene that I’m part of, and I’m glad that we’re actually a full culture, a segment of society as much as possible removed from the mainstream culture that offends and suffocates us. And fuck yeah, we have our own plays.
